Ever since I was young i have been a huge fan of the Volkswagen Golf. I will never forget the day I turned 18 and my father pulled on the drive in a second hand Honda Accord from 1998. Now don’t get me wrong I was over the moon with it, and very grateful but deep down I was slightly disappointed, after recurring dreams of cruising in a used Volkswagen Golf in Wolverhampton, who wouldn’t!
My love for the Volkswagen Golf model has remained to this day, so as you can probably imagine, I am pretty excited about the Volkswagen Golf R which is coming in 2015. I have spent the morning jealously reading about the lucky journalists who got invited to the Buttonwillow Raceway in California to experience the Golf R in all its glory, and the reviews sound like the Golf R is everything you would want it to be. Pretty unassuming to look at, yet it’s heart and soul belong on a race track. Here is how Autoblog writer Seyth Miersma described his track experience in the Volkswagen R;
“Precise turn-in, grip from all corners, body-hugging seats and flat cornering attitude thanks to the suspension and stiff chassis; all of these made me feel like a motoring hero over the course of one afternoon.”
Obviously then, they were impressed and glowing reviews like this leave me extremely optimistic about the future of the Golf legacy, after what has been such an incredible history of models.
